I fell asleep last night thinking of you. Cold and dark it must have been. I could hear the wind – the eerie kind – whistling round the house. It kept me awake wondering if you were sleeping. Or if because of the wind you two were enjoying sharing in the adventures of the day or if you were perhaps discussing the challenges that faced you when you returned to the classroom. I wonder what stories you’ll have to tell when you get back. You said the views were beautiful as you drove deeper into the majestic mountains. You painted me a picture so vivid, I could see the soft colours of the hillsides, graced with soft dabs of purple heather. How wonderful it must feel to be surrounded by such grace and majesty – just as the good Man intended. As I lay awake, I pictured you donning your waterproofs and setting off into the great unknown, first sitting down to plot your route on that OS map. I still marvel at how you can read those things and hope that one day I too will understand them. It’s warm here. The coffee is good to my tired mind. I wonder what time you set off this morning and if your sachets of dried milk and porridge were enough to fill you and give you energy to start the day. I did question your choice of sustenance for the journey, but I know how you love your food and thought you would know best. I hope the weather is kind to you and that you can at least enjoy one beautiful view, even if it is above the clouds.
It must be exciting, all this adventuring. I can’t wait to hear your stories when you get home and to one day be a part of them.
I wonder who it is that you were thinking about....... (Mom)
